Buhari’s visit: Imo govt dismisses IPOB’s sit-at-home threat

Imo State Government has dismissed the sit-at-home threat issued by the Indigenous People of Biafra against the visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to the state on Tuesday.

The state’s Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, stated this on Saturday while reacting to IPOB’s sit-at-home order declared in the state on Tuesday.

KEMI FILANI NEWS had reported that IPOB said that there shall be a total lockdown of the whole five states in the South-East for two reasons: Nnamdi Kanu’s court appearance and the visit of Buhari to Owerri, Imo State.

Emelumba said that IPOB can’t threaten the President because security operatives were ready for Buhari’s visit to the state

The commissioner said, “Nobody can threaten Buhari. He is President and commander in chief of the federal republic of Nigeria. Imo is one of the states he governs, and he is free to visit it. Security is in top gear, and I can assure you that his visit will be successful.”

He explained that President Buhari was visiting the state to inaugurate three signature projects built by Governor Hope Uzodinma’s administration.

He said, “Mr president is coming to commission Owerri- Okigwe Road, Owerri- Orlu Road and the house of Assembly complex on September 13. These are signature projects built by the governor Hope Uzodinma’s administration.

“Previous governments failed to build them. The Orlu- Owerri is a quality dual carriage road. 35 kilometres, spotless and can will any competition in the world and it was executed in less than two years.

“It took honestly and determination by the governor to fix the road. This will change the economy of the state. It will enhance the economic and social activities of the state.

“The House of Assembly complex was rebuilt completely. It was abandoned for ten years. The lawmakers abandoned the place for their safety, which is not a good sign for democracy.

“Uzodinma spent billions to rebuild Imo Assembly complex and it has State of art facilities. These are signature projects. Imo people are excited for the coming of Buhari. The impacts and transformation they will bear in the economy of the State are commendable.

“Security is tight. Nobody can threaten Buhari. Security is absolutely guaranteed. Imo hasn’t been crime-free. Security has improved in the state. We are going to have a successful reception for Mr president.”

Cursed’ ship found completely intact 90 years after sinking

Cursed’ ship found completely intact 90 years after sinking ARCHAEOLOGISTS were thrilled when a 90-year-old "cursed" shipwreck was found in Canadian waters completely intact more than 90 years after it sank. SS Manasoo was a passenger vessel of 529 tonnes built in 1888 in Glasgow and began daily journeys from Hamilton to Toronto that year. But on September 15, 1928, the ship foundered off Griffith Island , Georgian Bay, with 16 lives lost while fighting a heavy storm, and capsized when her cargo of 116 cattle apparently shifted to one side. The recent addition of increased passenger accommodation on its upper deck is thought to have contributed to the instability and all five of the survivors drifted for 60 hours in a lifeboat before being picked up by a passing ship. But sailors have another theory. Originally owned by the S.S. Macassa Hamilton Steamship Company, the Scottish-built vessel was renamed SS Manasoo, its new title reflected the primary ports of call, Manitoulin I...
