Owerri Police HQ Attack: See The Last Words Of Former IGP, Adamu That Cost Him His Job

President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali, as the new Acting Inspector General of Police.

Alkali replaces Mohammed Adamu, who is currently on an official visit to Imo State.

During his visit to the Imo Police Command headquarters and Owerri Prison on Tuesday, Adamu ordered police officers to " crush IPOB and ESN" and deal ruthlessly with members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and ESN.

President Buhari had extended his tenure on 4 February 2021, contrary to the provisions of the Police Act 2020, Section 7 (6) of which stipulates a single four- year term with no option of renewal for the incumbent Inspector General of Police.

It states that " the person named to the position of Inspector General of Police shall hold office for a period of four years. "

" Each police officer shall, on induction or appointment, serve in the police for 35 years or until he attains the age of 60 years, whichever is earlier, " according to Section 18 (8) of the Act signed by President Buhari on September 15, 2020.

Adamu, however, had served two months and three days of the three- month extension.

His successor, Alkali, who was DIG of the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (FCIID), was appointed by the Minister of Police Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi, on Tuesday.

The new acting IGP was born in 1963 and joined the Nigeria Police Force in March 1988.

He holds a Master of Public Administration (MPA) and a Bachelor of Arts (ED) in Political Science from the University of Maiduguri and Bayero University, Kano respectively.

Alkali is a member of the National Defence College and the International Association of Chiefs of Police and has attended several professional courses and workshops.

The Yobe- born police officer has held several strategic positions in the past.

These include: Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 5 Benin, Zone 4 Makurdi, Zone 7 Abuja, and Chiefs of Police of FCT and Delta Commands, among others.

In Other News: Why We Launched Airstrikes On Akwa Ibom Community- Nigerian Army

The Nigerian Army has confirmed airstrikes on some communities in Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the Nigerian Air Force said the ground and air team carried out an attack on criminals who had procured dangerous weapons in Ntak Ikot Akpan.

The Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Mohammed Yerima, said on Wednesday that the community was bombed because " the group has attacked several security agencies in recent weeks, resulting in loss of lives and hoarding of weapons. The latest incident resulted in the death of some policemen, including a Chief Superintendent of Police. "

According to an army spokesman, " The security situation in Akwa Ibom State had been relatively calm until recently, when the situation around the state' s Essien Udim Local Government Area became tense due to the activities of some hoodlums and criminal elements. The criminals used a variety of methods to obtain weapons and carry out their heinous crimes. The group has targeted several security forces in recent weeks, resulting in the deaths of several people and the theft of weapons. "

" The latest incident resulted in the death of several police officers, including a CSP. The hoodlums continue to terrorise law- abiding citizens through extortion and violation of their rights. "

" To root out the miscreants, a joint team of state military and security agencies conducted a clean- up operation in Ntak Ikot Akpan. The operation was completed successfully, with the miscreants being evicted and the fleeing hoodlums being neutralized by the air part. "

" Normalcy has been restored in the area and the police have taken full control and are carrying out their duties normally. The public is advised not to panic but remain calm and continue to support the security agencies to consolidate the gains made so far. "

Cursed’ ship found completely intact 90 years after sinking

Cursed’ ship found completely intact 90 years after sinking ARCHAEOLOGISTS were thrilled when a 90-year-old "cursed" shipwreck was found in Canadian waters completely intact more than 90 years after it sank. SS Manasoo was a passenger vessel of 529 tonnes built in 1888 in Glasgow and began daily journeys from Hamilton to Toronto that year. But on September 15, 1928, the ship foundered off Griffith Island , Georgian Bay, with 16 lives lost while fighting a heavy storm, and capsized when her cargo of 116 cattle apparently shifted to one side. The recent addition of increased passenger accommodation on its upper deck is thought to have contributed to the instability and all five of the survivors drifted for 60 hours in a lifeboat before being picked up by a passing ship. But sailors have another theory. Originally owned by the S.S. Macassa Hamilton Steamship Company, the Scottish-built vessel was renamed SS Manasoo, its new title reflected the primary ports of call, Manitoulin I...
